Comic-Con Transport Alternatives

Comic-Con Transport Alternatives

[UPDATE 5/21/14] With the Ace Parking issues this week, it may be helpful to note that there are many other parking options in downtown San Diego. Running a search for “San Diego” on the website Parkopedia  lists the many lots in downtown. Most of these are open to the public and will be available on a first-come first-serve basis during the convention. Street parking can also be found further away from the convention center – or nearby if you have really good Parking Carma. Metered spaces have time limits but are free after 8pm, and all day on Sundays. (As a super secret note: Yellow spaces are free to park in between 6pm-6am and all Sunday.)  As always, please read signs in garages and on the street when parking to know their time limitations...

Ommegang Releases New “Game of Thrones” Ale

Ommegang Releases New “Game of Thrones” Ale

It’s no fun waiting until July to cover outside events, so when I saw that HBO and Brewery Ommegang were hosting a party in San Diego to celebrate the release of their new Game of Thrones themed beer, I jumped at the chance to attend. Held at the Tap Room in Pacific Beach, the release of Ommegang’s “Fire and Blood Red Ale” sold out within a few days of being announced. The event drew in a large crowd of Game of Thrones fans, as well as beer aficionados. Concurrent events were held in several cities this week (as announced on Ommegang’s Facebook page) with many a beer celebration taking place around the country. Just, hopefully, none of the Red Wedding variety. Game of Thrones-themed food was available at the Tap Room. I paired my Red...

The Nerd HQ Rally Call

The Nerd HQ Rally Call

The Nerd Army rally call has gone out. Tuesday morning, over on Twitter, Zachary Levi posted the following:   A challenge has been set before me to show the power of our voices, so I charge you with shouting this: #IWantMyNerdHQ Let’s tell the world. — Zachary Levi (@ZacharyLevi) February 11, 2014 The call-to-arms was quickly picked up by the Twitterverse and the #IWantMyNerdHQ hashtag was soon trending in several cities. According to Hashtracking the tag generated 1,580,996 impressions. It certainly helped that other familiar HQ friends also joined in on the fun: Last Comic Con I partied at Nerd HQ and raised money for Project Smile. If you support nerds and smiles add this hash tag #IWantMyNerdHQ — alan tudyk (@alan_tudyk) February 11, 2014 My...

San Diego Symphony Announces It’s Comic-Con Concerts

San Diego Symphony Announces It’s Comic-Con Concerts

Comic-Concerts?  Indeed! In the past few years the San Diego Symphony has held just one SDCC-related concert, usually on the Thursday night of Comic-Con. Last year it was “Distant Worlds: The Music from Final Fantasy” and in 2012 it was “The Legend of Zelda.”  This year, they’ve expanded their Summer Pops lineup during Comic-Con to three shows, including “Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton” and “Star Trek (2009) Film Screening with a Live Soundtrack Performed by the Symphony.” Also returning to the Pops is Video Games Live, which for the past two years has been a separate show. Single concert tickets are available on the San Diego Symphony web site. The Symphony’s  lineup during...
