There are several amazing art galleries in downtown San Diego, several of which will have special installations just during Comic-Con. See below for details, and check out the Art Exhibits page for any new additions.
The Art of Frankenweenie Exhibition
Most likely this exhibit will be “outside Comic-Con,” although the venue is still unknown. The exhibition is being promoted as a glimpse into the stop-motion animation process used by director Tim Burton, and featuring many other aspects of the creation process, from sketches to props and sets.
Cartoon Network’s 20th Anniversary Exhibition
Location: JETT Gallery (989 W. Kalmia St. – Map)
Hours: Wed (7/11) 11am-5pm, Thurs-Sat 11am – 6pm, Event Saturday 7/14 6pm-11pm
More than 70 artists have been given the task of creating pieces to celebrate twenty years of the Cartoon Network. More details and images of a few art pieces can be found on Mark Murphy’s blog.
Chuck Jones Gallery Exhibits
Location: 232 Fifth Avenue – Map
Just outside the convention center, on 5th Ave, you’ll find a fantastic art gallery, the Chuck Jones Gallery. They will be having several different shows over the course of Comic-Con, starting with art by Mike Kungl. The gallery’s Facebook Page has the latest updates!
Cotton Tail Massacre

Darkness & Light: Art Inspired by Heroes & Villains, Hope & Heroism
Location: The Michael J. Wolff Art Gallery (363 5th Avenue #102, San Diego, CA – Map)

A collection of art highlighting the good and evil in the comic world and the real world. Featuring DC Comics’ Justice League characters and original photography. Visit the exhibit web site for more information.
